As a group, I will be giving the students each a one on one conference on revising and editing their work. They will also be given a checklist so they can check over their work with their writing buddy.
![]() Our first writing homework was on narratives to compliment our work in writers workshop. I grade their work based on the 6 traits of writing. This picture gives you a general "checklist" of what each trait is. Based on their first homework, I have split the students into 3 differentiated writing groups. Two groups are going to be working on writing conventions. The other group will be working on developing their ideas in writing. I will meet with them in small groups and their homework will be based on their specific writing needs for narrative writing.
I wanted to show this reading log as an exemplar. This type of reflection is what I am looking for with their reading logs. Here is how I have organized homework for now. Reading- Daily reading for 30 minutes, a book (grade level appropriate) of their choice. They are to complete a Reading Log every night and bring it in to check. Completed Reading Logs are due on Friday Writing- The writing packet I gave this week is called Personal Narrative. I would like ALL our writing homework to be completed on ThinkCerca within the next couple of weeks- stay posted. Math- Will be given daily. On the weekends I would like students to work on IXL and Study Island to reinforce their computation skills. Remember if your child is struggling with a skill it is very appropriate to go to a lower grade level and master the skill first before tackling the 5th grade level material. I hope this helps everyone! I had the opportunity to be apart of the University of Colorado Boulder study utilizing this program. These reading strategies will help students decifer grade level informational text and require that they work in collaborative groups. We are starting this today, using the strategy PREVIEWING. |
