http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-beverly-haz-mat-fire-20141202-story.html As I am sure most of you have heard about the above tragedy in our neighborhood. Our class has decided to start a "penny drive" to collect funds for this family. At the end of the drive, I will take our donation to Beverly Bank and contribute to this family in need. So start bringing in your coins and pennies!!! Second Quarter Units: Math- we will be continuing our Numbers and Base Ten Standards, followed by Operations and Algebraic reasoning. Writing- we are starting our history research reports. We are just starting to gather our information. Topics are pre Revolutionary War topics. A lot of students are researching different Native Ameicans and how they lived before the European American invasion. I will post more information, rubrics and deadlines soon. This paper will be due before Winter Break. Social Studies- we are starting our second unit on ancient Central and South American cultures. Science- we are finishing our unit on cells. Our next unit will be measurement and data. We will be combing/ integrating math and science standards to look at: Metric measurement Customary units Analyzing and interpreting data (different graphs) Elapsed time This is just a preview of what is to come this quarter. I have signed up our class for the Read to Succeed program through Six Flags Great America. I will send home the reading logs next week. I have gone back to homework packets. They will be due on Fridays. After progress reports went out, I told the students I will be putting zeros in the grade book if I do not have the work. The computer program drops the grade very quickly then. I have told the students if I get the work from them after the weekend, I will still accept it, but with a lower percentage and the zero will go away. I grade all their work on Fridays and then they have the weekend to catch up if need be. Email me with any specific questions: |
